My Lullaby

by Lauren   Jan 2, 2009

My lullaby
Parents screaming,
Glass breaking,
Crying of sorrow,
Retracting the blade.

My lullaby
Slamming doors,
Silent tears at night,
Thoughts creeping in my head,
Darkness suffocating the light.

My lullaby
Running footsteps,
Streaming tears,
Swallowing the lies,
Covering my ears.

My lullaby
Fake excuses,
Lying smiles,
Dishonest laughter,
Muffled cries.

My lullaby
Shattering hearts,
Splitting souls,
No one else hears my lullaby,
I'm all alone.

This poem broke my heart, it really did. Maybe it's because my head is very muddled at the moment, but it's as if I saw past all the words. I didn't read what you wrote, it's like I read between the lines. Instead of only seeing those words in my mind, I saw this profound sadness underneath, as if saying, "Nothing will ever be alright, but I'll let it be tonight. I hate being all alone, but loneliness has been around for so long now that its become a friend. Sing for me again, please." That's what I understood of this poem.
