Wonder and Magic

by Maddy   Jan 15, 2009

At 3:00 in the morning a child is born,
And even after many hours of labor,
the mother still holds it in her arms,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

It's 5 years later, fall rolls around.
Her daughter starts kindergarten soon,
Mom walks her to class, girl looks around,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

The next year school comes again ,
Daughter so bored, 1st grade she is learning nothing,
Writes a story 14 pages in length, gazing down at her work,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

Summer the year after is the worst of her life,
Being forced to change schools to join honor program,
But pleasantly surprised, exercising her mind, writes scrap book of poetry,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

A year's come and gone middle school takes over now,
Introduced to life's demons, suicide and shadows block the light,
Eventually confesses to mom, who hugs her tight, and daughter, surprised looks at mom,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

Girl now full blown into teenage life, learning lessons, screwing off,
No self esteem, her heart broken and guarded,
Falls in love with the most perfect guy, looks at him and his words
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.

She still falls back every now and then,
But remembers all she has overcome,
Knows her mother and love are by her side, looking at life,
Her eyes full of wonder and magic.
