Engravings

His name engraved
Her scarlet tattoo
Her heart is his
And she clings on
And through it all
Hes still walking away

A secret told
The lies he carried
Tearing her apart
Jealousy and anger
Mixed with confusing and hurt
Shattering the world she built

Her heart still beating
Is torn to pieces
Her doubt so thick
It strangles her
Shes tearing herself apart
Wandering what to do

And now shes treading water
But shes slowing slipping under
Drowning in the blackness
Of her own fear
Each teardrop weighing her down
But her heart is bound to him

This heavy chain
Each link she placed
Every angry word
Every silent tear
Engraved upon her prison walls
Eating up her soul

A broken heart
An unspeakable deed
A hand of mercy
Turned away
And she wonders
How her life came to be
So twisted and broken
So lonely and cold
A sorrowful life
That could not be rebuilt
So she stands tall against the world
And her brokenness stays inside
