Soulless Running

by Farther From Here   Feb 23, 2009

Days go by in a quickening speed
as i see your feet take you elsewhere,
the beautiful smile on your face,
and the happiness radiating off of you

The fields behind those fences are long
but each day you run towards the end
step by step you go on further
and amidst the sun's blazing gaze you smile

The air is hot and moist, your body sweats
but nothing matters but this goal
you look so passionate and it made me smile
though it might take a while, you run.

The trees are now gone, buildings emerge
is this the destination you once told me of?
Where is the grass you've promised?
The vastness of a land with a million flowers

You suddenly stopped to look around you
Then I realized that all the while you were running
never once had you noticed your world changing
Running was all you did. And look where it brought you.
