Thing.

This thing that walks beside you
This thing you call your own
It hurts and lies and makes you cry
And keeps you all alone

The gripping hands that hold you
As you struggle to be free
They fumble and grasp for answers
Then doubting, leave them be

Your friend is always with you
No matter where you go
Your friend that cradles crazy
And rocks you back and fro

This wall you've built around you
Keeps everyone staying out
But no matter how bad things get inside
the wall, you just don't doubt

This body is crumpling oxygen
And slowly suffocating you
It's caught its grip and holding tight
And you're afraid of what to do

This body's got you by the throat
And fingers on your heart
So if you try and almost love
It pulls you part from part

The wall that served it's purpose
Has become a mile high
And when you go to break it down
It just won't let you try

This friend won't let you leave them
No matter who you meet
It just wants you all alone
And I'm afraid it has you beat

This thing that walks beside you
This thing you call your own
It hurts and lies and makes you cry
- and keeps you all alone
