Swapping Lines

by Melissa   Apr 13, 2009

Please, don't leer at me
with those well acquainted lines-

mine are much too translucent
for a man who wears language
as his armor

Your hands move;
as though they were a lover's
free to roam
the golden peaks of my skin

yet I respond
with open verse

but careful dear
I bear thorns,
like any blushing rose
