And When The Bell Tolls For Me

by Ray Smallshaw   Jun 10, 2009

And when the bell tolls for me,
I will first remember my time at sea,

Recalling all the ships I sailed upon,
The men I served with who like me are gone,

The good times I had when I visited port,
The lessons I learned and those I was taught,

Of the love and the laughter I share in my life,
Of my Son, my Daughter and my ex-wife,

And the sadness of leaving those that gave me joy,
Especially my Grandson Finley and my new wife Ooy,
Of my brothers Mike and Lance and my sister Gail , Erica my girl and Aaron my boy,

The sadness will be gently curbed by me knowing at last,
That God thought I had done something good in my past,

Then with all those loved ones gone that I knew,
I will join up as a new member of God's heavenly crew,

Where, I will remember all the good things from my past,
Then slide into the arms of my Saviour at last.

    Ray,

This gave me goose bumps, for the things you said..but also for the message behind the words. We all have to go back to Him one day and indeed, we should try to have made our stay here something we can look back upon with pride.
This poem really struck an nerve with me, very well done:)

    Take care,

ps: your profile picture is so adorable, I have a small doggy too and she looks just as sweet as yours:)
