The Butterfly

by Kid Kurious   Aug 2, 2009

My eyes are magnetized to this butterfly,
Heart stutterin' in the same rhythm her wings flutterin',
Plus that smile she sent my way is enough to pull me out the gutter and,
The voice in my mind which from time to time
Feels inclined to tell me not to waste my time
Is silenced...

I got a need to know her and intrigued I approach her,
I wander and weave through my vocabulary to find speech to show her
Yet it soon occurs to me, my words could be
The least important necessity - more important are my ears to hear her speak,
So I listen...

And as time flies, I realize
Her eyes say more than her body or her lips do,
Peek through, those windows to her soul and you can see it ain't so see-through,
No, there's nothin' transparent about this young woman
Yet apparent in this young woman, scars left from a man
Who was there but never shared a care for this young woman
He took for granted...

Hurt but holding on strong,
She resists the urge to make the wrong choice
I can see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice,
Rekindling a love which came from a single end can never happen
Because it wasn't real love in the first place, and it saddens
Me to see her have to settle for something less than best
As the rest detest but are still quick to grab it fresh off the press...

So much given, such little returned, she deserves so much more,
And that's what I want to give her...and so much more,
I deliver myself here, no longer can I keep my feelings and my lips sealed,
Whenever in her presence, the way she makes me feel is
So surreal...

So if this is just a dream then let me never awake, forever sleep,
Coz whether she knows it or not she's diggin', and diggin' deep

...Deep in my heart, a place where she can always be...
