Would You Listen To His Word?

Would You Listen To His Word?
By Mark Spencer

Nobody knew the Scriptures
Better than the Pharisees.
Lofty religious leaders,
With spiritual expertise.

They saw themselves as shepherds,
And with God they claimed to walk.
They said they were qualified
To be leaders of the flock.

They thought they had the answers,
Said there's nothing left to learn.
Then He came into their midst,
And their rage began to burn!

They said He changed the Scriptures,
And blasphemed with every breath.
Yet the flock still followed Him,
Even long after His death.

A death that they demanded,
All because they disagreed,
With the things He was teaching,
Claimed He sowed the devil’s seed.

This is why I must ask you
Where it is that you would stand,
If a stranger came to call
And held out, to you…his hand.

If his teachings were different
From the word you thought you knew,
Would you turn away from Him,
For the things you thought were true?

He is the only shepherd,
And you are part of the flock.
Would you choose to lock the door,
If you ever heard Him knock?

Should He teach something other
Than what you believe is true,
Would you listen to His word,
Or would you crucify Him too?

End.
