The Harvest

The Harvest
By Mark Spencer

The harvest came one fateful day,
The world was fast asleep.
The Lord announced for all to hear,
The time had come to reap.

So all believers packed their bags,
In anticipation,
For only those who don't believe
Face this tribulation.

They told the flocks who shunned the Lord,
"Your Judgment Day is nigh.
All wicked souls shall face God's wrath,
The time has come to die!"

And they gathered in their churches,
Their mosques and temples too.
All preparing for the rapture...
Each faithful servant's due.

But when the scythe fell on the earth,
It caught them by surprise.
They thought the Lord would spare the souls,
Deemed upright in His eyes.

They assumed God would rescue them,
In light of all they'd done;
The hours spent attending church,
While worshiping His Son.

But lies can't be concealed from God,
He knew why they believed.
They worshiped for salvation's sake,
But God won't be deceived.

They loved their homes, their cars, their lives,
The treasures they attained.
They loved all the earthly rewards
Their piety had gained.

Their good deeds served to earn them points,
A mansion in the sky,
But God does not just see the things
That only meet the eye.

He knows what motivates the heart,
In everything we do.
He looks beyond the masquerade,
At every part of you.

This truth does not need your consent,
That's just the way it is.
Do not presume that you've been saved,
That choice was always His.

To say you know is arrogant,
A familiar facade.
For Lucifer also believed
He knew the will of God.

Don't be surprised if you should hear,
A sound like distant drums.
It is the sound the reaper makes,
The day the harvest comes.
