The Silent Santa

by Ray Smallshaw   Dec 22, 2009

"Honest mum I saw him putting the presents under the tree",

"And when he had gone I looked and three of them were for me",

In a flash of red and white I had seen Santa on Christmas night,

He had paused to drink a glass of milk and eat one of my mothers golden mince pies,

After which a smile appeared on his face and lit up his eyes,

He lifted his belt and then lifted his sack, snuggling it safely onto his back,

I froze as he turned to survey the room and ran his fingers through his beard in an absent groom,

Then as he had come my Silent Santa did disappear,

Off to give some other kid toys and to raise another Christmas cheer.
