Dying Breath

Dying Breath
By Mark Spencer

She didn't see that transit bus
As she stepped into the street.
The driver had no way to stop,
In the span of so few feet.

Her life, and everything she'd known,
Was about to reach its end.
All she was would be extinguished
Like a candle in the wind.

But there were things she hadn't said,
And so much she had not done.
She thought that she would have more time,
Her life had only begun.

She'd earned a scholarship to Yale,
Pursuing a law degree.
But one's ambitions can't control,
Their overall destiny.

It came like a thief in the night,
Fate would steal her life away,
Though she still had so much to do,
And so many things to say.

Do not take this life for granted,
Or put off your "I love you's".
There is no time like the present,
All we have to do is choose.

But she was consumed with regret,
At the moment of her death.
No one would hear a single word
She spoke with her dying breath.
