Thump Thump

by Melissa   Jun 15, 2010

I'm beginning to think the whole world
is on the verge
of losing its heart,
we're on the edge
of some sinister bend
that kisses not for luck

and I'm afraid we've mistaken Mother Nature
for some kind tree
that will hide our flesh
when all the concrete starts to crack,
but it seems we've compromised our integrity
for skyscrapers and parking lots

Where have our halos gone,
cigarette rings hover instead
and gravity has a way of stranding
who has not wings to glide

There are people peddling nonsense
with vacant confessions,
and the poetry sites
have all written themselves to sleep

I'm trying to stay flaccid
in a world of stone,
but there are no smiles to be had
everyone's gone plastic,
laugh lines have been deemed imperfect
and love, sweet love
is struggling to beat

(Poems have been coming to me lately,
so I fear not solidity, just yet)
