The Morning After

by Robert Daniel Long   Oct 2, 2010

The crowds have dwindled
And the faces
Fade from view
Never to be seen again
All that's left
Is the vacant room
As silence replaces the
Laughter
Here in the shadows

On the morning after

I remember
Things kept from sight
Those things
That just weren't right
Tying you to the floor
Of indiscretion

As your persona is raped
Leaving you naked
And scarred
The essence of vulnerability

As I look back
I see
That the smoke has cleared
This hill
Is now devoid of people
And the blood staines
Cry Out
As eerie silence
Envelopes this place
Leaving us to wonder
About the future
And where we stand

On that morning after

As I search my mind
I found the answers
Were in front of my face
As I looked back
Toward that hill
I could see
That on it's crest
Stood a cross
That perfect example
Of the ultimate love

And
I didn't take time too notice

Until the morning after
