Twisted Words

by Robert Daniel Long   Oct 31, 2010

Looking here and there
It's all in disarray
Twisted words are wreaking havoc
In all of society
Must we lie?
Or twist what we say
All in the name of power

Maybe there is no truth in people

Watching people
For what it is worth
By what they say
The actions of their demeanor
Set the tone for disillusion
They always shine
Their true colors

When pressed

There is no morality anymore
We have become subject
To deceit
And abandoned to disregard
And I am starting to believe it
Nothing is spoken
Unless there is a twist
One gilded to selfish gain

Seeing things
For the first time
In its true form
We as people
Just don't care

Always trying to twist
That which is right
Into misconception
Hoping to foul one's dreams
And desires
Into a mist of fading light
Left to the shadows of despair

We twist the essence of love
That which is sacred and pure
We twist the meaning of friendship
And put all these stipulations
Into play
Hoping to cover our own wicked agendas
And misplaced ideals

To look at us
It would seem
That our process of thinking
Has become warped
We say not one thing
For the benefit of another

Our words have become
A place defined
As putrid and vial
Twisted we come into this world
Led by what we are taught
And twisted we go
Our speech is slurred with damnation

A twisted eulogy
For a dying people

We have twisted everything
To such an extent
That it has now become rotten
Our words
Mean nothing
And
Unless we untwist the meanings
Unraveling the years of deception
We'll remain lost
A wrecked society

We have a way to restore
All that we have twisted
Giving hope of reprieve
And the essence of love and life
The very room to breathe

We must get out from behind the twisted lies
And the deception thereof
Walk back out into the light
And help one another
To move forward
In place of backward
To build
In place of wreck
And to do it
In the name of truth and friendship
