Ever so quietly

by Robert Daniel Long   Nov 1, 2010

The children play
Ever so quietly
In their rooms

All is still
No movement is seen
It's hidden
Yet
Something is moving
Among those at play

It breathes deeply
A Sigh
One of anticipation
Hoping not to stir
Those who are here

Just waiting
For the right moment to appear

When ever so quietly
They come out
Stirring about and playing
Not wanting to be seen
Frolicking in the warmth
Of this small room

Hoping to enjoy the evening
Before the dawn
Takes it away
Causing them to retreat
Into hiding
Ever so quietly slinking away
Deep into their hole

Where it is dark
And quiet
Here hides
The lonely mouse
