On My Mind

by BlueEyedMystery   Jun 26, 2011

The stars look like they were made to dance with tonight,
and they're inviting me along for the ride.
But their sparkle shines right into my heart and sets it aflame.
I can't dance with this heart attack in my chest.
[I try to leave the past behind,
but this time, you're on my mind.]

And all the parts of town that we claimed as ours,
I just can't go there anymore.
Your voice lingers over everything.
And it still shocks my heart every time
there's no I love you before the dial tone.
[I try to walk through this world blind,
but this time, your face is on my mind.]
And I miss the way you'd hug me from behind,
and all those nights in the summertime,
when we were in love.
Everything was new, and I knew I loved you,
just by the complete absence I'd feel when you were gone.
It's been way too long.
[And I can't push you away this time,
your memory is playing on my mind.]
But our hearts couldn't stay apart for long,
because they knew where they belonged.
And against my will, I'd melt into your arms.
Every time.
[You made the past come alive,
and now you're clouding my mind.]
The lightning bugs all glow brighter it seems,
because we're back where we're supposed to be.
And I need you here with me,
through everything.
I missed the way our lips aligned,
but they seem a little softer this time.
And you better remember you're all mine,
no one's taking you away from me.

[And this time,
I don't want to leave the past behind.
This time,
you're staying on my mind.]
