You See Me

by Aish   Aug 2, 2011

You see me,
You don't just look at me,
Look at me and scan over my features.
To you I'm not my brown hair,
My hazel eyes,
My freckles or my smile.
I'm not my waist or hips,
not my legs or my breasts.
You see me.

I'm not the colours I wear,
My shoes or my clothes.
Not the gold around my neck or wrists,
Or the gemstones on my fingers.
You see me.

You don't see me as my friends,
Nor as my parents,
I'm not my colleagues or the people I meet.
You see me.

I'm so much more than all of this,
So much history, so much presence and so much potential.
People walk straight past me;
Not you.
You stop, you look, you listen, you know.
You see me.
