The Cat is dead

by Mattias Ostling   Nov 25, 2011

When it all began
I was ignorant,
her company
nothing more than help
But as time evolved,
so did I

The start of a new year,
A beginning of love
A doubt emerged

A question echoed in my mind:
Is the Cat dead, or is It alive?
Every time I saw her,
I'd think It alive
But every distant message
I'd assume It dead

Then came summer,
and my mind strayed
My only reminder
the blink of her smile

Autumn came and
filled my heart
I was joyful and jelous
both at the same time

Months, Weeks and Hours
have passed since then
And only now do I know
that the Cat
is dead

The title and subtile them of the cat is dead inspired me to google the song lyris and an urban angle on this metaphor

Not to be confused with dead were the person can be brought back to life or is living
"but then the cat was dead, but not dead dead, just physically scared for life." - Lionman
I love deep poetry and was born on the cusp of Leo under the sign of the virgin
which means I will be analyzing this for a while

    well done

    I agree with everyone above...!
wordings excellent, start was good, mature writing and you were right about the ambiguity...
I couldn't say much as everyone has mentioned what I wanted to write...
    Good work..:))

The Cat is actually a reference to "Schrodinger's Cat", which is a mind experience where the Cat can be seen as both dead and alive at the same time, and only by opening the box will you find out which. This is then a metaphor for "more than friends", that is, are we more than friends, or are we not. At that point we could be more, and only by opening the box would I find out.

Well, That is a question that perhaps many wonder when they are in a relationship.
But i just don't know why you were talking about a cat.
    Cozy Amour Thither? hehe.

This is a great piece, first showing doubt until you finally realize that there was no love. At first it was just a routine that was making you think that it was love but as the time elapsed you realize that it wasn't.
So separating from time to time is a great advice to make one realize if its love or not.
