Safe Place

I close my eyes and drift away
Away to a place I can call safe
I hear the slander, the words, the lies
But in my world, I no longer cry

This place is beautiful, it suits me just fine

I can hear the deceit and not give a damn

I can laugh at myself and my mistakes
I can tear off the mask and not have to fake
The feelings I feel are mine alone
I'm free to feel it deep in my bones

In this place where I spend my days
I'm free to drift far, far away
Free to be a free spirit again
Away from the agony of embarrassing pain

I'm not ready just yet to come back down
To face the music and its agonizing sounds
Don't pull me back, please not yet
I'm not ready for the future's threat.
