My Africa

by Paul Gondwe   Mar 6, 2012

Africa my love
I will caress your springs with delicacy
and quench my thirst
in your tasty waters

I will hold you in my arms
and whisper songs of hope in your ear
with my soothing voice while
I stroke your green crops

I will be the sun by day,
The moon by night
and die a thousand deaths
so you get to live a thousand more years

I will assure you of a bright future
Where peace will flourish
and your glory as the motherland
will be regained.

I really admire this poem. When I started reading this piece, at first I was inspired by his love for Africa and felt like it should have been placed in life poems, and as I continued reading, I was applauding his decision to place it in the love poem section.
Paul- Your love for Africa and devotion is felt within each line. I have never been to Africa, but you took me there while I was reading this piece, Beautiful and descriptive images danced in my head. This poem brought tears to my eyes, the love you have for Africa touched me deeply.

This line brought me to a time as a child when I would touch the corn stalks within a corn field, feeling the texture of the leaves, and feeling the love I have for where I was raised.
You captivated me, and at the end of this piece, I felt like standing up and applauding! Well done Paul

So your from Africa, thats pretty cool. I can tell that world means a lot to you, and so does mother nature and everything that represents her. I think it cool that you write love poems to her.

Ahh, the "Malaria Belt," an endless source of suffering and famine. The one thing that never runs dry in Africa is the longing.
