Before me and in me

by Karla   Apr 4, 2012

You think you can tell
love from war
as if you were the only one soldier here.
But little you know
about shields and elms,
about people and life.

Tomorrow the rooster
will call again and you will remember
the times you denied me.
I am a woman of absolute surrender.
I gave up all to follow
what would never owe me
for I don't believe in battles and true lies.

Before me and in me
only the truth
you will never see:
(my) life can't be contained in words.
The ubiquity of my being
can't be understood
even if you try.
I am one thousand women
and none of them live in your limitations.

Confident is a great word like Tara said. This is spoken like a real confident woman who knows who she is and what she wants out of someone. No one likes battles, especially when it comes to love.

    Great write Karla!

Such strength in those words, real confidence portrayed here, you know who you are and what you want and this man has tried to deny you what you deserve.

a really powerful and strikingly confident piece of poetry.

I love how you used the idea of a soldier, somehow who is seen as being strong, but someone who wants to overpower you, make you follow the rules they set not be yourself as you rightfully should.

    Awesome
