Emancipated

by Paul Gondwe   Apr 7, 2012

The news of your death has brought
smiles to many faces
Chants of joy fill the night sky
as word spreads around

No more will you kill in vain,
no more will mothers cry for
losing their children all because
of your ignorance and greed

Remember their cries, their screams
Calling out your name for mercy
but all you did was look the other way
as your foot soldiers pulled the trigger

You had blood on your hands,
calling us fools in your speeches, saying
we were hens and you were the cock
to do with us what you pleased

Where are you now all mighty one?
lying there lifeless and hopeless
Did you think you would cheat death?
Who were you to decide the fate of others?

They told us to mourn,
saying we lost a great leader, a visionary
No more shall we be fooled,
we have been emancipated

I wrote this after i got news that my president had died, he was really unpopular, very ignorant and ruled my nation like a police state.

The news of your death has brought
    smiles to many faces

^The opening to your poem sets the stage for the reader showing the evilness and cruelty of a person's death that has brought smile to many faces.

No more will you kill in vain,
no more will mothers cry for
    losing their children all because
    of your ignorance and greed

^It is heart wrenching to see and hear the death of any child but to know that in a nation children are killed sue to one man's greed..a very sad stanza.

    Remember their cries, their screams
Calling out your name for mercy
but all you did was look the other way
as your foot soldiers pulled the trigger

^This creates such a painful scene in my mind. To know that this type of merciless killing was still going on!

You had blood on your hands,
calling us fools in your speeches, saying
we were hens and you were the cock
to do with us what you pleased

^A terrible thing to stand by and see and go through and to know that nothing could be done to stop this!

Where are you now all mighty one?
    lying there lifeless and hopeless
Did you think you would cheat death?
Who were you to decide the fate of others?

^You reap what you sow..this saying came to my mind after I read this. Nobody can escape death and nobody can escape the sin they committed!

    They told us to mourn,
saying we lost a great leader, a visionary
No more shall we be fooled,
    we have been emancipated

^A triumph for the nation and there is no need to mourn for a monster. I hope that relief comes to your nation with the next leader who will be good.

A strong and emotional write to have read this evening..excellent write!

Paul you know how I feel about this, I am sorry for the man's family and I truly hope the new President will be better for your country and its people.
