Drowning by moonlight (Colaborated)

I am part of a writing club and this is the first story we wrote together (this isn't a poem but i wanted to get it published)

She walked quickly occasionally looking over her shoulder, there was something scaring her away...

her heels clacked too loudly over the tile, and she broke into a sweat. 'could he be following me?' she thought. 'no. stop being ridiculous, u lost him when u cut through those few connected patient rooms' she was almost to the exit of the hospital soon she would be safe and warm in the confines of her old civic. she could drive away and find a hotel and he would never find her then. just as her hand closed on the lever of the hospital door...

all of a sudden she felt a jolt like electricity rush through her and her sight went red then black...

a doctor stop her and asked her if she was alright. yes im fine she said then she seen him at the end of the hall then all of sudden he was gone

this man had no face he was just a black figure that haunted her since the accident

oh how she hated to think of that day.... the day that she and her love had been on that bus. he had always been a fun lover, so at the next stop he had grabbed her hand and said, come on, "chiharu! lets go!" they got off and ran onto the sidewalk. but just as they stepped off the bus...

when his older brother was standing in front of them asking where they were going (his older brother is in a gang and his little brother borrowed money that came from the gang and his brother came to collect the money owed)

"where you going sean? did you forget the money again? you know what i have to do," he flashed the gun hanging from his belt.

"gah!" sean took an involuntary step backward. i..."i...im sorry ben...i...idont have the money right now...im trying. swear i am...its just...i only have half of it right now...do u want that for now?" sean stammered. bens hand flew out and grabbed seans collar and lifted him off his feet. "thats not good enough!!!" he growled

"hey let him go!" said chiharu. As she push sean older brother back the gun fell to the ground and it fired it hit sean. as chiharu watch sean fall to the ground asking her help she just stood there watching. then she ran like never before when she stopped she was at sean's house but she didn't go inside. she went back to her house like it never happend

that night she couldn't get sean out of her mind she didn't know if he's alive or dead, "maybe ben got to him after i ran off" kept repeating in her mind. she wanted so much for him to be okay, the only thing she remembers of him is him laying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood, with ben hovering over him.

She tried to fall asllep bu treplays of the incident swirled in her mind. As she tosses and turns in her bed she hears a loud shatter outside.She goes downstairs to investigate and finds.....

finds that cat got on top of the table and knocked over somethings

"stupid cat" she says. and she hurries and shoo's it out of the house.

but when she started heading back to bed is when the haunting started she couldn't stop looking over her shoulder or seeing a shadow move in the corner of her eye

She felt a rush of adrenalin as she covered her eyes. Her heart raced as she quickly leaped onto the bed and hid her face in the pillows. "Just leave me alone," she murmured, sounding like jibberish muffles through the pillows.

little did she know that this shadow would haunt her for years to come...
all of these things came to her now as she saw the figure at the end of the hall, she still doesn't know what happened to sean, is it him trying to tell her something from the other side? or has she lost her mind? she was but in this hospital to "see what mysteries her mind holds" but she knows they think she's crazy. ever since she's been in here they have been giving her this medicine that causes sudden blackouts
Chiharu shook her head. She wasn't crazy, she didn't need those pills. What she needed was freedom. She sat up and dangled her legs off the side of the bed, trying to ignore what shadow haunted her. She closed her eyes and tried to relax. Light shone through the window. It would have blinded her if her eyes wouldn't have been closed. She listened. A small clacking noise snuck up behind her. Chiharu squeezed her eyes shut. It was all just an illusion, she thought, those haunting stories, they were just crazy. She had believed all that was true until she turned around...
"SEAN! I, I, thought you were dead" she get's up and runs to him and they embrace each other like nothing else in the world mattered.
After many minutes of rejoicing Chiharu looks up."How did you find me? Why are you here?"she says with a puzzled expression. Sean fiddles with a loose thread hanging on a pillow." I have some unfinished business i have to take care of and i need you help, Chiharu."He said pleadingly.
"Sean, how am i supposed to get out my parents left me in here to have my craziness wear off everytime i try to get away i black out and i end up back in my room and they aren't going to let you just take me out of here."
sean took a step back and chiharu heard a strange metal sound and then she knew... "Sean you lost your leg?"
he hesitated "yeah," he said. "i went to the hospital for it and they fixed it up but....i ended up getting an infection in the wound because when the bullet entered, it broke into a few pieces...and...they didnt get one of them out and never noticeed it until it got infected...it was MRSA... they couldnt cure it. so they had to cut it off..." "oh...sean...im so sorry!!!"
"its alright but might meet tonight at our old hang out spot because i really need your will you be there?" asked sean " i...i will i promise"
first i will have to find a way out of this prison
tis time to execute escape plan Q !!!
yes. abcdefghijklmno and p all failed...terribly..
im going to ask my parents if i can go, chiharu thought "mom dad can i go out tonight." "yea sure," said dad. "remember to bring your phone," said mom WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THIS 5 HOURS AGO!!!!!
so i went to our hang out spot and wait for hours but he didn't come. so i was walking home when sean jumped out. "sean what are you doing?!? i waited for hours." thats when she noticed he was bleeding bad. "we have to get you to a hopsital". "NO!" said sean
"ben is waiting for me there i just need to get to your house
if i get to your house i want you to dig the bullet out and but a gauze on it"
drawing on her old defense mechanism for scary situations (sarcasm), "sweetheart, ur gonna need a lot more than just a guaze on that..." Chiharu said flippantly, though her voice was completely unsteady through her entire sentence. "come on," she said, serious now, as she looped his arm around her shoulders. "whether u want to go or not we have to get u to the hospital." he pulled away from her grasp and almost toppled over. "chiharu, i told u i cant go there!!!" chiharu cursed. "Sean, why do u always have to b so hardheaded?!?! its been forever since i did any kind of surgery, and even if i hadnt lost some of my experience, at my house, we dont have the proper equiptment! i have to take u to the hospital. we'll hide in a storage room, jack some equiptment, and ill fix u up ok?" sean looked hesitant. "i dont know chi---" but then his voice was cut off. no. they hadnt been found. it was because chiharu kissed him. when she pulled back, she said, "just shut up and trust me, ok?" sean looked at her, eyes wide...it had been forever since hed felt that.... "ok..." he whispered, and they made their way through backroads and alleyways to the hospital.
When they got to the hospital day broke, night ascended upon them. Sean and Chiharu decided wait for all of the staff to leave for the night. When Chiharu noticed everyone was gone except for a guard that made sure that nothing was going wrong. Chiharu snook up behind the guard taking his gun and knocking him up side the head unconcious and taking the key to get into the hospital. Inside the hospital Chiharu was looking for the O.R Room knowing thats where the Equipment was she went searching through the medical cabinets and found rubbing alcohol, first-aid kit, and the average tools used to get a bullet out of a human body. Chiharu felt nervous because she knew she'd be operating the man she held dear. Sean smiled at her. Having the trust and love in his eyes for her, along with the pain of the wound. But his love and trust for her overcame every other fear he had felt.
Sean layed down on the operating table.
He looked at Chiharu.
"Look Chiharu, you don't have to do---
"Yes I do." Chiharu interruptedly said.
"Ok, let's begin." Chiharu says.
So Chiharu sedated Sean and put him under while she starts the operation.
(one hour into the operation)
"This is harder than I thought." She says to herself. Chiharu is breathing heavily as she works to get the last bullet out she accidentally punctures his lung. His left lung is beginning to collapse. Chiharu knows if she doesn't do anything to stop this that Sean could die within five minutes. So she's afraid..Knowing that the man she loves could die. But she lets the fear in but for only FIVE seconds so she counts. "One... Two.... Three... Four... Five." She then realises what she needs to do she then stitches the lung that she accidentally punctured up. Burns the wound closed. And Sean's vital signs begin to pick up. He's going to pull through. She quickly stitches up the original wound and the hardship is over. She then wraps a bandage around it. And she decides to sit back. On a chair and Chiharu passes out.
----Flashback----
"Chiharu, are you really gonna become a doctor?" Axle asks.
"Yes, I want to help people." She says sheepishly
"No offense doc, but if you can't handle a knife without hurting yourself. Then you can't be handle a scapel. Got it memorised?" Axle said thinking that he talked her out of it.
"Don't. Ever. Tell me what I can't do. Got it memorised." Chiharu said sarcastically
--- "CHIHAR--- CHIHARU!" Chiharu woke up to Sean yelling at her to wake up.
"Sean what is it?" She asks.
"how long were we out?" Sean asks.
"shh--. Damn, I don't know." She says.
And then outside the doorway they hear foot steps...
her heart pounding, Chiharu propped sean against her shoulder and rushed to get him to the other door, the one that led out into the cardiac ward, and away from the one where the footsteps were sounding from, the ICU. ha...how ironic, chiharu thought. she knew he shouldnt be moving so much, and sean was breathing heavily, struggling to keep up with her pace, but she had to get him out of there. they pushed through the swinging double doors and out into the hallway...plenty of patients rooms to hide in....she just had to pick one. sean pointed to one, his hand shaking with his weakness. "there" she saw what he was pointing to. not a patients room, but a room with a big orange sign with a circle surrounded by three others...a bio hazard sign..... Chiaru looked up at sean as if to say "u sure?" he nodded. she nodded back. 'ok...' she thought, and she turned the knob and pushed the door open.
in the one bed lied a man with sickeningly pale green skin, he was breathing heavily with large gashes on his face, arms, and legs. Chiharu wondered to herself "what could be wrong with him?" he caught eye contact with Chiharu and she noticed his eyes where just white he had no pupils. "What is that!" she screamed, she realized it can't be human but what could it be?
"Oh my G---!" a hand covered her mouth. seans. "its ok," he whispered in her ear. "hes strapped down. he cant hurt us" it was true. heavy leather straps bound the sickly man to the gurney. sean removed his hand from her mouth. 'but...' she thought. "but what if that craps airborne?" she whispered to sean. "cant let it bother us now. we dont have anymore choices and if its airborne, weve already got it, ai." 'ai'. his old nickname for her. japanese for 'love.' her cheeks went hot just hearing him say that. "come on," sean said, and pulled her towards the closet at the far end of the room. "if we hide in here, and are really quiet, even if they open that door, theyll see that man there and think that we wouldnt come in here if our lives depended on it." he pulled chiharu into the closet and shut the door behind them. it was pitch black in the closet, and chiharu held onto sean like she was clinging onto life itself. "sean, i..." tears started to run down her face as her mind ran through the events of the night. she buried her face in his chest. ive missed u so much...ive never gotten over u...even though i thought...thought u were gone..." sean rested his hand on her cheek. "i know," he said. "ive missed u too. so much. its been...agonizing...never knowing how u were doing, never even knowing if u were ok. im just so glad i found u... but...we have to be silent now ok? or else neither of us will have a chance to really get to know eachother again." "i...iknow," chiharu said, " but...i have to let u know that...sean, i---" chiharu felt seans lips press against hers. "i love u 2," he said, and placed a finger to her lips. it sounded like footsteps were approaching the biohazard room. chiharu was afraid to breathe.
"Get out of there!" A voice said.
"Unless you want to die." He continued.
"what's wrong with him?" Sean asks.
"What? Never seen a zombie?" The man asks.
"Yeah I've seen one but only in movies.."
Sean says seriously.
"Well this one is real. And will kill anything that it can hear or smell. ---
"Or see.."
Chiharu said whisperly.
Chiharu then shuts the door as slow as she can and tries not to make any noise. As she is closing the door being as careful as she possibly can be domething falls and makes a loud *BANG*
what used to be one zombie now appears as ten of them and they try to bum rush the door before it gets sealed shut. But than the man then appears to close the door. And pushes it shut. "Walker-apocalypse evaded. Got it memorised." Chiharu heard a familiar voice. It was Axle. He than said "Get it? What? No one here watch The Walking Dead? Sheesh you people are tense as hell."
Another doctor walks down the hallway and notices the three holding the door closed, "did any of you go inside of there?"
"Yes, i did doctor, why?"
"Did you come in contact with that man?"
"No, i didn't but he was breathing heavily when i was in there,"
"I need to take you to quarantine to make sure you weren't infected with the virus,"
"infected??! u mean its airborne?"
"it's not airborne to our knowledge but this is a new virus and we need to take precautions"
So the doctor grabbed Sean with a vise grip and started pulling Sean down the hall. Sean started to freak out and started to wrestle the doctor for freedom. Thats when Chiharu noticed the doctors eyes... they were turning white. "Sean....SEAN! he's a zombie run!!!" So Chiharu hit the doctor got Sean free and they started to run down the hall. When everybody in the buildingwas turning in to zombies and attacking everybody else nearby!. Come on!" said Chiharu "we can make it." When Sean stopped........
his eyes start to turn white but chiharu slapped him and they went back to normal, "what happened chiharu?"
"your infected,"
you could tell by the urgency in her voice that she was afraid.
so they got out of the building and ran home. Chiharu had to keep slapping Sean from turning in to a zombie. "Save yourself Chiharu" said Sean. "NO i will not leave you again!" Chiharu said half crying.
the transformations kept happening faster and faster, to the point where she almost lost him a few times
"chiharu i need you to know that i don't think i can hold on much longer i need you to let me go"
Sean turned away for a moment and turned back to Chiharu with a tear in his eye. "Chiharu... Do you still have the gun that you stole from the guard?" He asked with a tone that Chiharu couldn't place out.
"Yeah... Why---" and then she realized.
"No." She said as if she was going to stop breathing.
Sean kissed her head.
"Please.. I WANT TO DIE STILL BEING ME! I DON'T WANT TO BE UNDEAD! PL---
Sean was caught short by him coughing up blood. His skin was turning pale white his eyes we're dialating and turing white. By this time he was on his knees..
"P-p-please. Chiharu I don't want to hurt you"
He then advances towards Chiharu. And picks up her hand and makes her grip the gun tight.
"Kill me... Please.." He said.
"I can't... I can't give up on you knowing possibly that there might be a cure." She says as tears finally roll down her eyes.
"You have to Chiharu. There is no cure." A familiar voice says.
"Axle? And how would you know that? "
"Because, down in Georgia a CDC HQ was destroyed in last resort of surival. And now that beacon of hope is gone. So don't let this man suffer... M-m-my--The woman that I loved was taken from by this damn pandemic. Kill him Chiharu. End his suffering"

"Please Chiharu... Do it.. And go on living both of our lives." Sean says

"Fine.. Sean.. I love you.." She says
"I love you too ---BANG---
the shot rang out like thunder in an otherwise silent area in the street, Sean looked up and chiharu slapped him again, a bullet hole inches away in the pavement, "why didn't you do it?" asked Sean.
"I couldn't force myself to do it, Sean,"
"You have to, it's better to just lose me than for us both to be dead,"
"I can't lose you like this,"
"I don't want to lose you either, but you have to do it before i turn again,"
"I can't do it. Axle, you do it,"
Chiharu handed the pistol over to axle, then got down on one knee and kissed Sean and said her last good byes. "Chiharu, you better turn around,"
"ok, axle, I don't think i can watch,"
"I have to do it now, he's starting to turn,"
Sean's Eyes turned to that sickly white, Axle lifted the gun, took a deep breath, exhaled, and pulled the trigger.
Seans head turned a strange angle and his shirt was stained in red, he fell forward and his face landed on the asphalt with a slight thud. Part of the back of his head was missing from the exit wound. The scarlet pool was growing around Sean's mangled body.
Chiharu was on her knees now crying hysterically now, she knows she has lost her lover forever now. "He's gone?"
"Yeah, but you should just walk away and not look back this way, you really don't want to see this,"
The pool was surrounding Axel's black military issue boots, this isn't the first time they have felt the warmth of fresh blood, but Axel hope's it will be the last...
it had been 5 years, but the memory was still fresh in his mind. hed been on the police force. he was off duty, and he wasnt prepared for what was going to happen. he and his partner, his best friend, paul, had been driving the car back to the station, when a white lincoln sped out in front of them, almost hitting the front fender of the sedan. thinking that maybe he and paul could handle what appeared to be just a rogue speeder, axel flipped on the patrol lights and siren and followed the lincoln. but the speeding car didnt slow down or pull over, in fact it sped up. "oh, so thats how u wanna b huh?" axel mumbled to himself. he hit the accelerator and charged after the lincoln while paul called it in that they were going to be back a little late. "yeah. we got a speeder, tried to pull him over quietlly but he sped up. were gonna chase him. got the license plate number C E L 9er 2 1 9er. thats charlie, egg, lavender, 9er 2 1 9er. looks suspicious. may be requesting backup later on." the lincloln turned the corner, nicking a honda on the front fender and sending it into a tailspin. "ok. on second thought. send backup now. and maybe an ambulance. gps us. im not sure what road were on, axels driving like a maniac over here..." paul flashed axel his smartalleck grin, and axel couldnt help but chuckle. little did he know... that this was the last night that paul would ever have the chance to make him smile...
the lincoln driver jerked the wheel to the left and hit the brakes turning 180 and sped towards the cruiser
"We're going to crash!" paul screamed to the axel
'yes, paul' thinks axel, 'tell me something i dont know.' axel slams the breaks and says "paul, we gotta get out of here or were both dead" the cruiser screeches to a stop and they both hurl themselves out of the vehicle, and get as far away as possible from it. just in the nick of time, the lincoln swerved around the cruiser, as if the cars were playing an insane game of 'chicken' but then, a caucasion man who seemed to be around the age of 35 started shooting a small machine gun in the direction that paul ran. axel was crouched behind one of those blue mail boxes that u see out in front of post offices. paul had not been so lucky as to find a hiding spot...and axel had no choice really but to watch, because it all happened so fast. the next thing he knew, the lincoln was speeding away, people were screaming, had been screaming, and the sidewalk where paul had run was stained crimson red.
axel sprinted to the other side of the street and ran to paul, who was lying on the ground. axel knelt beside him. it was a gruesome sight, a terrible sound....paul was covered in his own blood, a hundred holes in him, and he was having immense trouble breathing. he propped pauls head against his leg and lied to his face. "its gonna b ok, pauly boy. its alright..." the only response paul could make was a gurgle. "requesting an ambulence, and backup, that car looks like its full of gang members, just turned onto west king, speeding down, probably gonna hit the interstate a ways down. pauls severely hurt get backup and ems down here now!!!" axel yelled into the radio. its ok paul, its ok...
10 minutes later, axel tried to stand, but could hardly manage it. 5 minutes ago, he had watched his friend slip out. 3 men had to pull axel away from paul... "hes my best friend!!! my best friend, let me go!!!" he had screamed. paul was the only person he had held dear. he had noone else. no family, no wife, barely any other friends, and the only one he had had been taken from him now. the men dragged him away, over to the ambulance, his pants and boots soaked with pauls blood. until he got over to the ambulance, he didnt even realize that somehow hed been shot in the arm...
all of this rushed back to him now as he stared at the dark stain around his boots. "Axel we need to go before i break down,"
"your right chiharu, we need to go,"
Axel never cried before now but tears welled in his eyes as he walked, he wanted to get rid of this image, then he looked at the gun...
thinking about paul, seeing sean, chiarus lover, lying there lifeless on the ground, he just...couldnt take all the gore anymore. he raised the gun to his head, almost without even thinking about it... just then, as if sensing that something was very very wrong, chiharu turned around she gasped. "axel, no!!!" she screamed. her frenzied voice jolted him back to reality. he shook his head as if to clear it. what was he doing? wow...all those years on the force had really made him see the worst... he shook his head and walked with chiharu, hoping to find a safe haven somewhere. and, hoping that he wasnt going to totally lose his mind before they got there
he dropped the gun and the jolt of the impact with the ground sent a bullet right into Axel's shoulder blade shattering it with a terrible cracking sound...
"GAAAGGGHHH!" axel screamed in pain. he grabbed his shoulder and fell to his knees. he felt nauseated, and his head spun. "axel!" chiharu ran to him and dropped to her knees. "oh nonononono...." she muttered. she heard a sickening moan from somewhere behind axel, and she looked up to see a zombie advancing toward them. "come on axel, we gotta get out of here" she helped him up and they ran to a nearby warehouse. axel shot the lock off the door and they pushed the huge metal door aside and rushed in. they sealed off the door using a giant shelf they found when axel had lit up his lighter. once that was done, they looked around for something to stop the bleeding. it appeared that they were inside a warehouse for a supermarket of some sort, because there was just about everything you could imagine. chiharu told axel to sit and keep the gun that she had picked up off the ground before they ran. "if theres anything in here, u should have the gun. u wont be able to move as fast, and ill be all over the place. i can use pretty much anything as a weapon." "ok," axel said reluctantly as chiharu rushed off to find some wrapping for the wound. and...probably some pain relievers. she had a lighter as well, and soon she found some storm candles. she lit one up and used the light from that instead. she still had the backpack shed brought with her to meet sean, so she shoved a few in there... sean... tears started to form in her eyes, but she blinked them away. 'no, 'she thought. 'stop, he wanted u to survive and if u dont focus on that, you could very well die tonight' she found some dressing for axels wound and found some ibuprofen. it was the strongest painkiller they had in the warehouse... she knew that he probably wouldnt be alive for more than a few days, before the infection got him, and if there was internal bleeding, he might not last for more than a few hours. but at least the place was clear of the undead. for now at least, and at least they had light, and food and shelter and water and clothing. she rushed back to axel and started to tend his wound.
after she wrapped his wound they went to sleep for the night, late that night there was a loud knocking coming from all around the warehouse axel woke up and picked up his gun and chiharu woke up next to him and picked up a crowbar that she had found earlier. "what's that noise, axel?"
"i don't know, be ready for anything"
all of a sudden the doors in the front of the ware house is knocked down and zombies leak in like a wave of rotting flesh, then the back door gives also and they are quickly surrounded. the zombies separate chiharu and axel from each other. chiharu fights them slowly backing up. the sounds of gun shot's and moaning fills the air in the ware house. chiharu trips over a box and ends up on her back. she hears axel scream then looks up and see's sean looking back at her with white eyes, then it all goes black. The End
