Flushed - Collaboration

by Maple Tree & Chelsey   Sep 4, 2012

My eyes deceived me,
as the smell of cotton candy,
and musky old men, withered
my senses, but I yearned to
hold those golden fins of a prize.

All it took was determination,
these darts must pop 3 balloons
and I'd receive my first pet-
that I'd keep hidden from mama

I grin at the carny man, so close,
hearing the snapping of balloons,
the excitement boils, I grab the bag of
fishy's and stuff them into my incognito pocket.

I quite enjoyed the high fives
they released during their squirming.
They were ecstatic to have an owner,
and I, well I was over joyed to show them
a bowl of cold water filled with
fruity pebbles and plants from my lawn.

Our union was a joyful one,
yet all good things come to an end
for now my little friend is floating
"Belly Up", my shattered heart cries-

Goodbye Nemo....

I found this so sad when I first read it. But re-reading, I notice an underlying tone of sarcasm.
"fruity pebbles" seem stuck in my head, aha.

I enjoyed this piece, you both. Hope to read more. :)

Very well written piece lol and so true! The story is well told within the verses. I used to have a fish called flounder when I was 11 and I cried when I found him floating because he was the fish that lived the longest out of all the one's I ever had. Class write!
