Still Life

by Karla   Sep 25, 2012

I have seen him barefoot with a stick in his hands,
drawing enigmas on the ground
as the sand listens to his unreachable mind
every single day.

He speaks the language of the half-eaten winged angels.
I can't understand his forgotten words, the imprisoned artist in him.

The poet in me wanders whenever he sits in the park,
showing me a new definition of existence as if
I somehow could be different from him
when I protect my dreams from my mouth and imagination.

But in the corners of my doubts,
poems die of agony and madness.

I know nothing about him
just what the sands allowed me to see
and what I have seen is not enough
to comprehend a human being
under the stillness of the sun.

This a wisedom counsel from the depths of a wiser persona. We get muddled uncertain of whom we're been with, rather judging one due to social expectancies. We just need to believe in whatever we're doing so its for a just cause, no strings attached. With that any hindrance that may seemingly manifest can be suctioned.

No one is perfect, but we all have our endurance limits, likes and dislikes. Uncertain whether your actions can be a breeding ground for trouble can be somewhat troubling. Applying a diplomatic candid approach, to withdraw from any form of discomfort or uproar that may ensue is the best. One should live a good life, it'll surely speak for you always.

A thought provoking piece, message deeply rooted. Exotic! :) ..

I loved how you used enigmas here...this was such a thoughtful poem. It was so different and I began to see this curiosity....how you open with the scene of the man and how you reflect on him then. I also like how you say in the beginning you can't understand his "forgotten words", then in makes me think you both are artists, you the more poetic, but he is still seeking to be understood and connected with. Will definitely read again! Beautifully intriguing piece Karla!

    Congratulations on the win :)
