Sleeping beauty

by The Poet Behind The Poems   Sep 27, 2012

As the sun is banished, the silver moon
rises while ten thousand diamonds
glitter upon the midnight sky.

I fall to my knees ,my hands come together
while she talks to her mum ,
"I miss you mommy"

then her eyes open to
a falling tear.

Fairy tales come to life with the reading
of this enchanting bedtime story
ending with my little angels kiss.

In a room of darkness I switch on her
disney night light walk towards
the door, I heard a soft whisper

"I love you daddy";

With a smile I kiss her
on the forehead
and whisper back

"you always will be
my sleeping beauty
I love you"

I feel a sense of warmness when someone writes a poem about their children. You can certainly feel the love in the words that you have for your child and obviously the love that she has for you. It is truly beautiful.

A simple bed time story reading and you have transformed this poem into something more and I think it's because of the fact that it means so much to you.

    Awesome write, I LOVED IT

Ohhh that is so sweet Tony! I never knew you had a little girl :)

I love poems that mention classical fairytales in them (I guess all girls do as well, lol) it feels real like this happens so regualrly in your life which makes it really nice to read it in a poetic way.

    Great job!

Wow Tony, such a beautiful write, I have got to say the first stanza gripped me straight away with the beautiful imagery of nature and the transformation from the sun set to the moon rising. You have captured this transition very well and I like the word you have used 'banished' carrying such powerful connotations of abandonment but it becomes replaced by the elegance of the silver moon. I also admire the images of the starry night sky I find it very clear imagery drawing the reader back to memories of a beautifully lit sky.

I love the direction of this poem as it allows us to travel through your mundane activities as your little girl goes to sleep and we get to see into the connections you share which is well embedded within this piece. The ending i find is so powerful and brings this poem to a complete bliss as it ends so sweetly with the words I love you, an emotion so true between father and daughter.

I really enjoyed reading this poem, it lifted my spirits.
Well penned with emotional value in every segment

    5.5 from me

This is great tony, you capture the love between father and daughter beautifully.

I like how you use the sleeping beauty story, but I love the mood of the whole thing, very calm and proud.

You can tell that she is precious to you.

Tony, i really like this write :-) i wrote something for my son a while back called daddys little soldier and i always love it when a poet writes for their children , especially when it evolves around a bed time - in my own personal preference i particulaly like it when the piece has a lullaby quality to it, it's how i rate a poem of this nature to be honest. and i really write this poem :-) your usual flare with words and flow were great but it's that lullby qualtiy of the piece that shines bright for me, genuinely one of my favourite pieces from you, and when your little girl grows up you have to make her read it :-)

Great job dude 5/5 all day long :-)
