Focused on not

by Larry Chamberlin   Oct 26, 2012

Left the train to sit and wait for my ex-wife.
Turned on Maps in GPS Mode, satelite view
and enlarged the picture closer and closer
until, at maximum range, I could see clearly
the concrete post on which I have come to rest,
except that it is empty - I am not here any more.

Marriages end, often bad, if you're lucky
you get the chance to meet again
and remember what brought you together
better than you recall what pulled you apart
and you regain the friend you lost
in the implosion of life that is divorce.

A pleasant evening reminiscing good times
with Italian dinner in her favorite place
(a hole-in-the-wall with four star food).
The persons we have become are better
than the wrecks that once collided nuclear;
so proud to have had you in my life.

Larry, while I cannot relate at all to this piece, I found the piece interesting and well crafted, very wise and mature like yourself...

I loved the way it was worded and I could imagine you with your phone out, searching for the place you waited in, on the platform...it was a really interesting image but a lovely one at that

    I enjoyed this piece...it's wonderful

This is a lovely tribute to a matured relationship. It's great to see when people have the grace to overcome any ego or pettiness and embrace their shared history together.

Larry I read this piece last night at first posting and now again this morning with my coffee.. I don't think I have ever read a more heart gripping piece than this piece here... Not many folks write of their Ex wives/husbands, and so when I read this, it warmed my heart.

On a personal note: I stayed friends with my Ex Husband and a few years ago he passed away, and then I started writing about his precious soul. Im so happy that you have written this piece.. I think more people need to embrace the friendship of the one they once called Husband/ or Wife.... honor that friendship as you have done here. Beautiful piece.... On a technical note I really loved the descriptive timeline of getting off the train and then at dinner... Truly a touching poem and I thank you for sharing~
