City of Rome

by Maple Tree   Oct 31, 2012

You were the scandal
that I held a secret,
between abandonment
and a broken heart.

You meant more to me
than I expressed to others,
I'm sorry that I've
waited until now to
tell you this...

I needed you
to walk away that
sunny afternoon,
but the scent of
green apples
was overwhelming,

and I suppose the
haunting on brinker
street remains the same-

but I had to tell you
you're not forgotten,

and that crazy song
will play in my heart
forever....

I can sense a lot of regret in this poem Maple. The way I read this poem was perhaps someone you were once so close to got away, or walked away, and they never really knew how much they meant to you. It is funny because I normally read a poem and think of a certain person which I relate the poem to, this poem made me think of a few in a few different ways.

    love this <3
