Muted Departure

The lingering smell of
a fading love is still
tangled in between my
breaths; I can almost
inhale a hint of that
silent storm you left
me with.

So quiet that I kept still,
watching you withdraw
your presence one step
at a time, until the only
audible sound hemmed in
was rippling through me.

I forecasted a darkness
in the horizon but it was
approaching me too soon.

As if your suns never
oscillated around my
universe; and the soft
hues of your amber
rays never showered
my awakenings. I don't
know if you were once
here, or if you were just
a faint haze of summer.

    This is stunning! The descriptions you use are just perfect for this feeling! The idea that it feels like they never were there...just a fleeting memory is just so painful to experience and even more so to read. This is beautiful in all it's sorrow.
