Constituents of Mankind [Kyrielle Sonnet]

by Khalid M Darwish   Dec 12, 2012

Emotions and feelings direct my heart
While thoughts and ideas control my mind
But without soul, heart and mind fall apart
Heart, mind and soul compose every mankind

Sometimes you can't control your emotion
While they're as deep as they make mind so blind
This can kill your heart upon promotion
Heart, mind and soul compose every mankind

Controlled thoughts make life easy in dealings
But this does not mean throw feelings behind
Adhere to justice with thoughts and feelings
Heart, mind and soul compose every mankind

Emotions and feelings direct my heart
Heart, mind and soul compose every mankind

Kyrielle Sonnet

A Kyrielle Sonnet consists of 14 lines (three rhyming quatrain stanzas and a non-rhyming couplet). Just like the traditional Kyrielle poem, the Kyrielle Sonnet also has a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within the Kyrielle Sonnet consists of only eight syllables. French poetry forms have a tendency to link back to the beginning of the poem, so common practice is to use the first and last line of the first quatrain as the ending couplet. This would also re-enforce the refrain within the poem. Therefore, a good rhyming scheme for a Kyrielle Sonnet would be: AabB, ccbB, ddbB, AB-or- AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB.

I very much enjoyed this piece, although I have to say the style is a little repetitive for me, but I do think you mastered it! Excellent job

2 of my favorite forms have just come to life in this piece Khalid... BEAUTIFUL!

The kyrielle Sonnet is a difficult form to write.. I tell ya, you have a gift for formed poetry and it shines in this piece.. the message touches me.. sometimes thoughts can interact with feeling... and become a nu-sense to the soul... love this!
