A christmas to remember (short story)

by Alanis   Dec 21, 2012

As the snowflakes fall and the afternoon chill
Blows me a buttefly kiss, I listen to the laughter
That surrounds me like a blanket of gladlyness
But yet exceeds me and brings not even the
Slightest curl of my pink lips. My blonde hair
Flutters behind me lie a kite in flight. I pull
My hoodie closer to my pale face, but yet my
Rosey cheeks are the only thing that make me
Look alive, the crunching of my bright red gumboots
In the snow provided the slightest entertainment.
Snow balls are tossed like rocketships in flight
And ducking and jumping is a needed skill as if
Being lodged in a video game was an everyday thing.
Such life surrounds me and wide eyed I remain at
The harmony these families withhold. Christmas always
Proved quiet, everyone was too busy withholding traditions
To notice my evading presents yet, no bother eluded me.
I continued through the thick snow toward my destination,
The orphanage where I once belonged.
