Smoke and folly

by Alanis   Feb 9, 2021

Poisonous pillows of smoke
Delicate dreams of folly
Twisted hands and knotted tongue
Distant ghost of tomorrow lingers beyond
A chaser of caffeine and nicotine
Wide eyes that see nothing
A dark bellowing room
Wide fingers and toes begging for ecstasy
Shapes and figures leap and dance
Eyelashes flicker while body turns to dust

I loved how each line was a new image that gave the reader intrigue, but the meaning was a bit elusive. It made me think of detaching from our present state and exploring other senses, or letting ourselves explore the forbidden, past what we understand as mortals. I got different vibes from this. At first, it read as extension of drugs and their effects on the body and mind, the delusions or senses that are heightened. Maybe a sense of disillusionment. I also read it as being bound by another force, perhaps supernatural.... or even indulging in something alluring and full of passion, whether that force seeks to destroy us as humans or simply wants to lure us in with pleasure and pain. Interesting write, you kept the mystery in it even with those 10 lines. Hope to read more from you!
