A Shade Called Grey

by Meme   Dec 27, 2012

My brushes moved in patterns
of colorless strokes against the
albescent space in between you
and me, and I awaited for the paint
to dry on that empty canvas.

But I was amazed that the painter
in you never came to my rescue.
Never taught me how to hold that
brush, and how to blend the colors
of life so we can live it together.

Why?...

Why can't there be a painting
that portrays us? Why can't
we both exist in a stillness?

Somehow our shades fail to
meet in one palette; it's like
we continue to repel in means
of constant contradictions.

And apart we continued to
color. I; veiling my world in
white, and you; shadowing
yours in black. But I think
that both of us will miss to
discover that unique shade..

Meme, I have read and reread this piece so many times and although it makes me sad I cannot help but to read it again. Wanting to blend two lives together and create a loving masterpiece is something, I believe, everyone wants in life. To find that one person that completes us, that fills that emptiness inside. So to read how you flourish when apart from each other but not when together is so heartbreaking. I could go on and on but I will stop here and just say, the flow is flawless, I love all the metaphors and Meme, you, the poet, paint words with a pen just like the artist paints canvas with a brush and this piece is priceless... Sometimes people don't end up being soulmates after all. Time tells both what differences they have that will never be resolved. Leaving them to do nothing but part from each other. Nice write.
