Coffee and Fortune Cookies

by Rusheena   Jan 3, 2013

As I sip the same cup of coffee I've had since this morning,
I dream of the clouds departing soon,
And though the forecast is cloudy and bleak,
I bask in the imaginary sun of the afternoon.

As I crumble up fake fortune and
crunch the cookie between my stained teeth,
I slowly begin to wonder about lucky numbers.
Is it just a bunch of superstition and printed up words,
or are there really fortunes out yonder?
Yes, it is and no, there isn't

The steam from my mug fills my lungs
And I take a slow sip of hot nerves and smile,
with the savory taste of too much sugar
and cream lingering on my tongue.

I really loved this piece, it took me to my job actually- where, although, i don't drink coffee- i often sip of hot choocolate and let my mind wander itself. This piece touched a certain level with me, and by finish I felt comforted and at ease. I really enjoyed reading this. Fantastic job!

I loved the begining of each stanza, so powerful. I like the expression of "stained teeth" it's very funny.

Thanks! I didn't really know where I was going with this one, so I put it on the shelf for over a year and finally decided to finish it. Glad you liked it. :)
