Last Words

by Jack Nightengale   Jan 19, 2013

The hospital bed grows colder,
Time stands still yet my body grows older.
Too far gone for a simple transplant,
Nothing to be angry about, no need to rant.

Memories flash as my journey ends,
Tracing my life back to when it all begins.
Like looking at old videos,
But it's a story that no one really knows.

Who was I to think that I could live any longer?
Just a simple weak fool that others thought was stronger.
Yet, here I lay struggling to buy time,
Still death is at my side instantly like the drop of a dime.

It lays its cold dead hands upon my chest,
Slowly bringing pain and agony as he lays me to rest.
My soul filling the gap between each and every finger,
Even as a wondering spirit the smell of that day will continue to linger.

So these are my last words and nothing more to say,
I don't ask to be remembered, just put in the ground where I shall forever stay.
The curtains are closing and this is my final bow,
Look towards the future and think only of what you will do now.

Goodbye....

Memories are meant to be held close, although some just want to let go, to those who've lost a loved one though, sometimes that's all they know. 5/5 This gave me chills.

I have not heard from you and I am worried about you. I didn't know anything about the transplant till the day before you getting it done. I keep telling myself hat maybe you are only healing and dot have a Vance to get on. But it has been so long now that j am almost certain j didn't get a chance to tell you how j truly felt. And tht may be the thing I regret forever.
