The Water Fountain

by Maple Tree   Feb 25, 2013

Thirst is quenched by ignorance,
segregating tongues from water.

Speaking in riddles of a past when
light was afraid of the dark.

I am no less a man by the shadow shade
of my skin, yet I drink from less than he;
bleeding red as I.

We shall bathe in the same rain that drips
upon unity;

For now, only in my dreams.

Based on a famous photo back in 1950-

Segregated water fountains.

    Powerful piece Andrea... Love it...

    I am still so disgusted with the way the times were back then and there is still so much of it today... we all bleed the same no matter our skin color

    Oh Andrea...you have the power to create a picture in my mind without me even knowing what the picture is...You have a way of writing that just sends me into a world,

    I am no less a man by the shadow shade
    of my skin, yet I drink from less than he;
    bleeding red as I.

    ^^I love this part...so poetic and powerful!
