Shadows of Today

by KaJean   Mar 13, 2013

As I walked along the road, my shadow grew tall
I had been walking for hours
Until the town behind me grew small
The asphalt grew harder, with each step I took
My footsteps became louder
But Mother Nature didn't look
Not only was it hot, but the air dry too
Not a single cloud in the sky
Only a large sea of blue
My memories surround me
Like the barren land all around
My tears fall silently
Only to burn up on the ground
"Lonely is she, the one walking alone."
Just following a shadow
The only friend I've ever known
With the sun so bright, yet slowly sinking
A thought came to mind
So I began thinking
What would it be like, if I were to disappear?
If I were to cry for help
Would anybody hear?
Would anybody know, the pain I felt?
This BURNING sin
That makes my soul melt
With all of this pain, and all of this guilt
I feel like these flowers
Weak and starting to wilt!
But still I will continue walking on
Until the last petal falls
Until I am gone.
