Open Gate of Desire

by Robert Daniel Long   Jun 7, 2013

An open gate
One that leads to a secret place
A place hidden by obscurity
Yet
A place to find serenity
And rest
For a weary soul

It's lined paths
Follow a stream
Here and there grassy places
Are found under the trees
Offering places to sit, unwind and think

That open gate
Has lead me down a path
One that followed a course of beauty
Guiding me straight to you

For the beauty of your heart
Has permeated the entire expanse
Of this hidden place
Causing everything
To radiate in a new light

I've become lost
Lost to the embrace of desire
The desire to hold you
And feel you breathe

Yet I awake
To find myself
Having been asleep at the gate
Hoping for it to let me in
So I see if it was real

Or just a dream

As I reach for the latch
The gate swings open
And what do I find
But you
Standing before me
Beckoning me to enter in

And be embraced by not just desire
But everlasting love
The very one I already knew
But failed to notice
