Please God, let this be a dream

by Once an Angel   Sep 28, 2013

There you stand, your arms spread wide,
Giggling in the faded sun.
"I'm flying" you say,
And I swear white wings unfurl around you.
"Beautiful", I think,
Drinking in this moment,
your piece of genuine, untainted bliss.
"I can be myself around you", you say,
And I step in behind you,
My arms snuggling into place:
familiar, home.
Please God, don't let this be a dream.

The waves sing their steady background melody,
Accompanying the crunch of rocks beneath us.
The wind is waltzing with your chocolate hair,
Rebelliously defying your hood's keeping.
"Beautiful" I think,
Drinking in this moment.
My hand aches to find yours,
Filled with glittering sea glass;
To hold it close, to hold it long,
To make this moment last.
Please God, don't let this be a dream.

We are curled up in bed together,
My hands tracing your loving face.
Your normally worn eyes now smiling,
With a warm touch of happiness.
"Beautiful" , I breath out,
Drinking in this moment.
Falling in love with your gentle smile,
Finally unguarded from life's burdens:
Your concern for others' pain,
Your struggle to make life last.
"I love you."
Please God, don't let this be a dream.

You are in my arms again,
But everything is all wrong.
Wrists pouring red and colored porcelain white,
Brown eyes staring towards me, unseeing.
"Evanescent", I sob,
Dreading the reality of this moment.
"Come back!" I cry,
"Someone's missing you,
Do not travel farther away!
I love you, and I need you,
Please breathe more today!"
On my knees beside you,
I cradle you in this final embrace.
Please God, let this be a dream!
