Snow

by Demitri Von Schnutz   Feb 9, 2014

Its snowing again,
Just like it was back then.
It reminds of the time we shared,
Shaking in a fox hole cold and scared,
When I was out of food and water, you chose not to eat and shared.

You continued to encourage me and all the others,
Stood beside us on the front line as if we all were brothers.
You said that we all would go home safe and sound,
But you always sacrificed yourself, so that we could move on to the next round.
Although you you gave us wings to fly, we could never free you from the chains that you were bound.

Day after day, we grew tired and weary,
Your pep talks always made our eyes teary.
You'd go nights, sometimes even a week without sleep,
Even when you were tired, drained, and cold, you led us over hills that we would normally think were too steep,
Still at night you would take over every shift, just so that we could rest and count sheep.

When we thought you were to weak to lead, you always proved us wrong,
Overcoming obstacles, reassuring us that we would all be able to go home where we belong.
You were always the first to enter and the last to go,
You enlightened us on things that we didn't even know,
I always look back at that time and smile because of you, your purity is just like that of the snow.

Wow... this poem really blew me away honestly. Such a dedication and beautiful write. I love how one thing can take us back to a memory good or bad. War is a tough thing to remember but your friend means so much to your life and this poem is very well detailed. I love the wording overall and the ending is very touching. Your friend is the snow and pure like it too. So so beautiful!
