Your Words

by Demitri Von Schnutz   Feb 9, 2014

"Alright now listen,
The sun makes your sweat glisten.
Which makes you easy prey,
This is not that case, at least not today.

I'm going to train you all in hand to hand fighting,
I'll be blind folded, you'll fight me with no lighting.
I need ten of you to step up, if you think you can beat me,
You'll only get one shot, the first one is a freebie.

The rest you'll have to earn,
Remember that in this ring of fire, if you fall you'll burn.
Ten of you step up, the rest will go and stand by the rifle rack,
If any of you would like to run do it now because, there won't be any turning back."

This was the day I first met you,
Taking on ten men blindfolded in the dark, impossible, would've never believed it to be true.
As the blindfold was strapped on tight,
The show began but it couldn't be called a fight.

Not even three minutes passed,
You took them all on at once, saved no one for last.
The guys fought hard but, not a single strike was landing,
When the light came on you never moved, you were the only man standing.

"If you don't know your enemy, how can you hope for your strikes to land?
Your fist are like words that your enemy can understand.
Every punch, kick, elbow, and knee, are like words that you don't say,
I'm going to teach how to silence it all in just one day.

You all have fear,
When you can't see you get scared, your movements are all I hear.
Your emotions tie you down and make you vulnerable, and that fear will forever stay,
In a bar fight, or ever a street brawl, you probably would've won and walked away.

You're all warriors now, you have been granted a chance to gain immortality,
Don't let the opportunity slip away because of your vulnerability.
Accept your weakness and they turn into a power you couldn't obtain casually,
When that power is harvested, it just comes to you naturally.

I'm not here to teach you how to master the art of fighting,
I'm only going teach how silence your words by enlightening.
Chains are my words, they constantly keep me bound,
You each have wings, so use them reach the sky and leave the ground."

You didn't show us how to fight and rip our souls apart,
You taught us a better way, you taught us about the strength within our heart.
Like a song that you only remember the guitarist chords,
I live my life based off of you words.

This poem is very beautiful. I loved in this one how you pinpointed the wording of the leader and stayed in his perspective while doing so. Then in the other lines you seemed to do an inner monologue or it had a diary feeling to it. Very unique though. The poem itself was lovely because this person or leader was teachinh you how to fight or about life by using your heart and soul to do it. Your poetry honestly needs to be heard your words are so touching. I love all of your poems because they tell a story within the story. Beautiful!
