Diabolical Plea (Tanka)

by Meme   May 25, 2014

I beg you oh dear
schizophrenia, spare me
just one night of your
company. And tomorrow
you can rip my world apart.

This poem is a great example of something very powerful crammed into a small tanka. Firstly it is nice to see such a short form nominated. Secondly it is great to see a tanka so dark and emotionally charged. It starts right off the bat by given fear the control, fear of the other side of this persons personality. The word schizophrenia was made for poetry and is a great subject to use. I love how the last line leaves such a huge lasting image. Makes you want to read it over and over. Great write. 7 points.

I like the simplicity on how you described the trauma of schizophrenia. I've never personally seen one who's affected by that disorder but from documentaries, movies and books, I've watched and read of how it destabilizes a person's mental, emotional and intellectual faculties.
I can imagine how distraught that is.

A lovely write- up. I missed reading from your well. Hopefully, I'll stick around to read more of your works.
    Kudos!

I've always told you that you are the Tanka Queen, so when I started to read this piece, I knew it was going to be good.. but,,,,

Meme, I cried on this piece, and as small as Tankas are, usually tears don't have time to fall.. but I did with this one.. Schizophrenia is a devastating illness... the second to last nine did it for me.. just one night of silence... says it all. Very powerful piece !
