What You See Is Never True

by Jenni Marie   Jul 11, 2014

I wanted to start with a poem,
an essay, or a story to tell you
how amazing you are- but I
knew none would do you
justice, and to be honest
I don't really know where
I could start.

I knew whatever I could say
you'd only end up disputing
and giving reasons for why I
was wrong in every aspect.

But the truth of the matter is:
you're a wonderful person, one
of the best friends I've ever had
the fortune to meet and it's true,

you're a hell of a woman.

You'll tell me why I am wrong,
you'll dispute every word I utter
and you willl never believe me
-but it doesn't make anything
I say hold less meaning or
make it any less truthful.

My only wish for you is that you
could see yourself how I see you-
and then you'd let go of the self
hate, all the negativity and the
poisonous thoughts and comments;

instead you'd see someone
worth loving, someone
compassionate and honest,
someone so courageous that
at times you're my inspiration.

You'll challenge everything I
say, you'll find reasons for why
I am wrong and tell the world
why you don't deserve to be
loved or cared for- but none of
that makes your words
true because the truth of
the matter is

you're nothing short of
amazing and I love you.

**for a friend and a hell of a woman**

Great poem 5/5. I love it because I have had friends that think that way. I can relate to what this poem is for and about.
