Faded Legends

by cassie hughes   Jul 30, 2014

A final goodbye and the last ship will sail,
The white gulls are calling an end to the tale.
No more will the fair folk be seen on these shores
Slipping to fable, remembered no more.

Halflings and naugrim will all pass away,
And the ship as it sails out of sight of the bay,
will turn to the west where undying lands lie,
needing no hand to guide it, so straight will it fly.

An elf and a dwarf will be carried aboard
the last of their kind to depart from these shores.
And as history turns into legend and myth
Mankind will forget what it is that they miss.

    Nice write Cassie,

I like how you have given us a little scene here, and told a little story with a meaning behind it, but I also like your language use here, it is quite unique and makes the poem more appealing I find.

The flow is great and the tone is very subtle but quite deep with the meaning of the story.

    Great little write.

^ I think the first line had great placement and delivery because it pulled me in and was great. The second line was awesome too because it started to create the tone and set the scene for the main story to this. All in all this is an interesting introduction and it is well formed/styled.

Halflings and naugrim will all pass away,
And the ship as it sails out of sight of the bay,
will turn to the west where undying lands lie,
needing no hand to guide it, so straight will it fly.

^I like the oldish mystical feel here of the different creatures being introduced and the way this feels like its a cut scene from a video game rather than a movie or something else entirely. I really like that perspective and the details you chose.

An elf and a dwarf will be carried aboard
the last of their kind to depart from these shores.
And as history turns into legend and myth

^ I have to do the last line of this first, it stands out to me and left me thinking/ wondering. More creatures are introduced and the story gets its meaning without necessarily going too deep into the back story or history that has led up to this moment. Fantastic conclusion.

I think this poem is creative and well written. THe only advice I have is that you probably shouldn't capitalize the first letter of every line, it distracts the reader and damaged your flow noticeably.
