Just rocking my chair

by Everlasting   Feb 7, 2015

Sometimes,
I feel like an old soul trying to find rest
Just rocking my chair
To and fro
To and fro
To the rhythm of the day
To the breeze that greets my hair
To the lightbulbs in the porch
To the moon above the roof
To the squirrels in the trees
Just to and fro
Just to and fro

Downtime is seldom what it seems:
"Still is still moving to me" - Willie Nelson
Moving at a slower pace allows one to notice things otherwise missed. Like the squirrels, the moon, the breeze.
Doesn't make you an old soul, but it does make you a calmer one.
Here's to days in the rocking chair and other days running.

:) the tone is lost between sad and indifferent here..

The elements you chose, the bulb the moon and the squirrels, as if details that one would notice when in complete stillness state of mind, when one is in quietness and bunch of silent yet active thoughts.

Your opening lines show that you are trying to find rest and a breath to take but as if you are not completely content. Feeling old like one who's been through a lot, the repetition if just to and fro in the poem and in the parallel closing lines shows that you are stressing on monotonous emotions that could be burdening.

    Simple yet thought provoking.
