Lost Time

by Everlasting   Feb 16, 2015

I once, walking through a sidewalk,
held within my left pocket,
a candy, a pepper mint,
And with my hand, I played with it.

It had a plastic clear envelop,
(a little noisy but fun to squeeze)
that protected it from touching my skin,
And with my hand, I played with it.

I was walking through the sidewalk,
while looking at the trees, their green foliage,
and the sky, blue without a single cloud,
as with my hand, I played with it.

I continued walking through the sidewalk,
just seeing the cars pass by,
as squirrels jumped from tree to tree,
And as with my hand, I played with it.

And then, there came a time,
while walking through the sidewalk,
And while looking at its potholes and its cracks,
that I saw a handsome guy approaching me

And at that moment,
while walking through the sidewalk,
I tripped upon the thought
that I had not brushed my teeth

But I continued walking through the sidewalk,
as with my hand, I still played with it.

A little slice of life, the simple things that we have and hold brings us a smile and many a thought. I also like the repetition of the line "And with my hand, I played with it." For its kept taking my mind back to the point of origin like it was something important. It seemed like a focal point for the poem.

I also like how you ended the poem with the opening line:"But I continued walking through the sidewalk" This too brings the reader back to the origin of where it all began. Nicely penned as always dear :)
