1960's sentiment of Vietnam

by Glenn G   Apr 30, 2015

Where is it I have gone?
Where is this place they call Vietnam?
I don't know, I don't know

My buddy on my left
My buddy on my right
Both shot down
In the middle of a gunfight
Ooooh no, Ooooh no

We were out on patrol
For an enemy unseen
Everything behind us burning
Everything in front of us green

Our sergeant got hit
Chaos ensued
Everybody screaming
What should we do?

The helicopters fluttering overhead
We thought they came to help
But they dropped Agent Orange
And it burned like hell
My eyes burned from the smoke
And a chemical of which I didn't know
Nothing but jungle
What could we possibly be fighting for?
Then a land mine took out two more

For four years
We walked around that jungle
Shedding our tears
And burning the bramble
While trying to overcome our fears

One day I finally came home
It was as though I didn't exist
I found myself in a homeless catacomb
While people beat me with their fist
I saw so much death I refused to resist
...............................................................

They sent me to a place I didn't belong
And they left me there way to long
I will never be the same

They put my friend's names on a wall
They think that makes up for their death and the shame
I can't believe they even have the gall
