When You Remember Me

by cassie hughes   Aug 19, 2015

The finger of suspicion points out
our family's deepest secrets
and all I can do is hope that
this, my cross of sins, will lie
undiscovered and untouched
as we dance in the dark to
a tune no one else can hear.
Hold me close.
I need our love to bring me
through the night,
to be a lighthouse after
the storm of prayers to every god
that I can name has run its course.
I hunger, yet forgiveness never comes.
Share sweet whispers on my pillow
as I crush my tears into the
fabric of your silken shirt
and lay dreaming of another
day to die.
A steep price will follow,
this I know,
but here within the confines
of your arms I am undefeatable,
and when it rains again will be reborn.
A girl anew, to dwell in nature's home,
naked and infused with life.
Remember this each time you
call my name into the violet
darkness of the night,
reaching your peak within
grief whipped lonely dreams.

This was my second place vote and took me ages to decide between this and poem 4 (Maddy)! Both superb; love this.
