How to Break Me

by Once an Angel   Aug 24, 2015

Set the standard far too high,
and tell her she just needs to try,
since she's too strong to shatter.

Expect her to just push on through,
and bear the burden all adults do;
she must figure out the answer.

Leave her all alone to strive,
as she struggles just to be alive,
and never care enough to ask her.

Tell her she should be herself,
as long as she's someone else,
one they'd be proud of after.

Promise unconditional love,
within the terms written above,
sentencing her to be an actor.

Crucify her faith in God,
While chastising that she didn't laud,
And blindly trust in The Master.

Embrace her with fair weather friends
who attend to their own ends,
before thinking her needs might matter.

Make her unable to provide,
For her son, who does not hide,
The hatred he throws at her.

Make sure she's continually misunderstood,
assure her she is nothing good,
and tell her that her dreams are smatter.

Finally, give her first a selfless heart,
Which disables her from the start,
To let her own needs be a factor.

This,
is how you break
a Leesie.
